Seeking the Open. Photographs from the late GDR and early 1990s
“Seeking the Open” presents photograhps from 1983 to 1995, inviting people to explore the transformation of East Germany and discover new perspectives. In the final years of the GDR – when time seemed suspended even as signs of change became increasingly visible – Youth, Work, Living, Spaces, Bodies and Violence – the exhibition portrays a society in upheaval, whose shifting realities also shaped photographic practice itself. The images focus on everyday life in Brandenburg while revealing tensions and ruptures that continue to resonate in comtemporary society. Questions of freedom, identity and social change today remain closely connected to the transformative decade of the “Wende”.
